“Well, looks like she got away.” Sticking his head around the corner of the wall, Mateo spoke in a loud voice down the hall. “For now, but you can't escape forever.”

“Yes I can!” Lilith fired back, her voice muffled, but firm from beneath some hiding place she snuggled into.

Watching him with her filled me with a sense of life, of living again. This was what she needed, this was what I needed.

And I couldn't help but think this was also what Mateo needed.

We fit together perfectly, one big happy family. Together we were more than just two people, together we were what life was all about.

Finding your ultimate happiness and enjoying every single moment.

Because tomorrow isn't secured, tomorrow is an unknown. Living in the moment made every breath worthwhile.

Laying in bed that night, I was so tempted to just blurt out the words. 'I'm pregnant.'

But I couldn't. I wanted that moment to be perfect, to be one where he would be happy and excited. I just couldn't stop myself from worrying that news of a baby on the way would send him running.

A baby was a big deal. He had just allowed himself to let me in, he had just broken his own rules to be happy. And a baby should be a gift, not a shock.

Rolling onto his side, he started massaging my back. “You feel tense,” he said, digging his fingers into the muscles of his shoulders. “Are you alright?”

  “I'm fine.”

“Are you sure? Maybe you just need a little release?” Winking, his tongue dragged over his bright white teeth.

My body surged almost instantly, the heat crackling down my spine and pooling between my thighs. “Oh, yeah? A little release, huh?” Letting my fingers work their way down his arms, I traced the ink-painted designs in slow sultry movements.

Rolling me over to face him, his face lit up, staring at me under half-lidded eyes. The strength of his hands wrapped my thighs, thumbs digging in and pressing towards my swelling button.

My belly began to spin, turning in spastic jolts, and flooding with butterflies. It didn't matter how many times Mateo touched me, it always felt amazing.

His hands shattered my thoughts and flooded my brain. My skin would prickle, my chest would tighten, my lungs would tremble in anticipation for his next move. I loved every second of it.

Growling softly, he blew hot air over my lobe and whispered. “Let me make you feel good, let me take you to another place that belongs to us and us alone.” Flicking his tongue over my ear, he nibbled it gently. “Let me show you why I'm the man who will always make you lose yourself.”

“That sounds really good right now.”

An animalistic growl slipped through his teeth, rumbling up from a deep forbidden place. Feverishly, his hands grasped at my nightgown, pushing the fabric aside.

I was bare and naked beneath, ready and willing. My sex was pulsing with need, warming and soaking with just the look in his eyes.

Mateo's fingers tickled over my legs, sending a quiver through my body. Snapping his eyes up to my face, he flashed a greedy smile. He had felt it too and it only fed his devourous nature.

His growl deepened, rolling into a voice that was so low, so savage, it made my heart skip over itself. “You're a needy little woman, aren't you?” Mateo's lips hit my inner thigh, his teeth dragging over the hot skin. “You can't get enough of my cock, can you?”

Crawling up my trembling frame, his mouth suckled small quick bits of my body. They landed on my belly as he forced the fabric higher, making me shake. They landed on my ribs, making me inhale a short gasp of air. They landed on my chest, hovering over and around my breast, but not fully touching it.

I couldn't stop my reaction, I couldn't slow down my heart, or rapidly throbbing clit. My nipples stiffened, eagerly trying to reach the warmth of his tongue.

He was teasing the fuck out of me, and loving every second.

“Stop being such a tease,” I said through air filled coos. “I'm going to make you pay for every second you keep me waiting.”

“Sassy, that's hot. But I think right now I'm the one in control.” His finger gently circled my nipple, twisting it softly with a tender pluck. Arching my back, I let my head fall deeper into the pillow. “Yeah, right now, I'm the one holding all the power.”

Trailing his finger away from my breast, he rode my ribs down, slipping his hand into the small of my back. His fingers dug in to hold me in place, lips crashing down in wanton need onto my mouth.

He wants control, he can have it this time.

But two can play that game.

Stripping my clothes off, Mateo's eyes glowed, flickering in small bursts of light. He wasn't just enjoying my body, his stare went deeper, wrapping around my heart, and holding it tight.

Should I tell him now about the baby? The thought lingered for a mere second, only to be swept away as he coiled his fingers into my roots and tugged.

A moan swept over my tongue, my lids crashing down as my head snapped back. Prickles broke across my skin, framing my spine and working their way down my legs. My pussy was painfully swollen, pulsing so fiercely I wasn't sure how much longer I would last.

“Fuck me, Mateo. Please, fuck me, I can't take it anymore.” A sultry mask glazed my pupils, tearing away the last thread of control I had.

His grin was sexy and wicked. Leaning into my ear, he spoke with such certainty and willfulness. “You're mine now, Vi, all of you.” Lifting his finger to my face, he said, “Here, and. . .” Pausing, his finger drifted to my sex. “Here. . .” Raising to my chest, he glided up between my breasts. “And here.” Landing on my heart, he kissed the pounding muscle.

I couldn't speak, there were no words. He was right in so many ways, and yet. . .

  Mateo still knew nothing.

He didn't know that as much as he had claimed me right then, that he had me from the beginning. He didn't know that my heart had made room for him, and was more than open to having him forever.

And he didn't know the secret I was carrying.

Our baby, our life we shared, the family we were going to have.

Lifting his body, he tore his pants down in one quick snap. His cock was standing proudly, thick and firm. The tip was damp and glistening, shaft hard and pulsing as he laid his body over mine.

Reaching down, he grabbed his wallet and pulled out a condom. Stealing it from his fingers, I threw it to the floor.

You don't need that, you haven't needed that for awhile now.

Mateo watched the rubber drop from my hand, and as his mouth opened to protest, I hushed him with one finger.

His eyes studied my face for a second, brows furrowing up. He didn't object, he didn't try and reach back down to grab the protection.

Then as if he had read my mind, his muscles relaxed, letting his chest sweep across my breasts. Mateo settled into the thought of me taking the control.

Wrapping my fingers around his member, I guided it to my pussy, slipping it just into the opening. Our eyes were still locked on each other, bodies doing the talking for us.

Holding himself up on his elbows, Mateo slowly slid himself in. Pressing me open, his balls tickling my ass as he held steady in place.

Running my fingers though his hair, I stared into his soft expression. Our emotions had turned from feral and needy, to something more. We weren't just having sex, or fucking, or screwing, or any other simple name you could give it.

We were no loner just two people longing for comfort and finding more in the life we had grown to know.

  We had become one.

One body, one soul, one heart.

  This was love.

I saw it spark in his eye, I watched it change his body from rigid to realization. And as it settled between us, he began to move, thrusting with such passion I felt him in every single pore, vein, nerve; he made love to me.

My hips met his rhythm, pumping and gyrating up. His tongue flicked my nipple, teasing the hardened bead, and I lost all sense of myself. The hea
t of his body swept over mine, his heart thumping against my chest as his engorged cock stretched my walls.

Harder and harder Mateo pushed himself inside me, my pussy milking and wrapping tightly around him to keep him inside.

The tingles began to spread through my muscles, breaking over my skin and emerging in small droplets of sweat. “Mateo! Oh, Mateo! Don't stop, don't stop,” I screamed as he hit my clit with such force I couldn't hold back the electricity scorching my core.

Raking my nails down his back, my toes curled as the orgasm liquefied my insides. A long moan escaped my lips, my chest rising and falling in rapid bursts.

Slowing his pace, Mateo reached under my shoulders and gripped hard, his head falling into my chest as his body gave way.

Pulse after pulse his pearly come filled my sex, sealing us together, cementing the feelings that flowed through my body like water.

Lifting his face, his cheeks were flushed, breathing hard and shallow.

And together we breathed, we stared.

  We lived.

  Mateo

“What is going on, Vi?” Pulling her hair back for her as she got sick, I rubbed her back. “You've thrown up every morning this week. I really think it's time to go to the doctor.”

Brushing me away with a firm hand, she grabbed some toilet paper and wiped her mouth. “No, I'm fine. I don't need a doctor, Mateo.”

Letting out an annoyed breath, I raked my hands through my hair. “Why are you being so difficult about this?”

“I'm not being difficult, I just know I'll be fine.”

  “Violet—”

“Mateo!” she barked, whipping her body around as she sat on back on her heels. “Just stop with all this doctor stuff. I'm fine.”

Standing up quickly, I turned away from her, pacing in the small bathroom. “You have barely eaten anything, you throw up every damn day, you've been so damn moody. . .” Pausing, I let my eyes settle on hers. “What the hell is going on, something isn't right, tell me what it is.” My voice was harsh, almost cold.

Things had seemed off with her and I couldn't place a finger on it. A part of me was starting to worry that she was ill, sick with something that wasn't curable. I couldn't stop the thoughts from rushing through my mind.

Does she have some sort of cancer and knows it?

Is she hiding some terminal illness from me?

The thought of that broke me inside, it tore my heart out and stomped it into the ground. I didn't know how I would handle it if she was truly ill and unfixable.

Hanging her head, her eyes filled with tears. I watched as they slowly started to trickle down, following the curve of her jaw and plopping onto the tops of her thighs. My heart broke as I watched her sobbing, her shoulders shaking violently with each inhale.

Dropping to her side, I pulled her into my arms and hugged her tight. “I'm sorry, I didn't meant to make you cry. But please, just tell me what's going on with you.”

Looking up at me, her eyes were red and swollen. “I'm pregnant, Mateo.”

  Pregnant.

  Pregnant. . .

  Holy fucking shit.

Scratching my head, I let the words sink in. “You're pregnant?” Sniffling, she wiped her cheeks as she nodded. “So we're having a baby?” Nodding again, Violet peered up at me like a lost soul. “Wow. I, I don't. . . Wow.”

It was the last thing I ever expected, the last thing I thought could ever happen. We had used condoms. . .

  Not the first time.

Pulling her up onto my lap, I curled an arm around her back and held the other to her belly. “How long have you known?” I asked, pressing my fingers tighter against her skin.

“I found out a few weeks ago, by accident really.” Her fingers tickled through my hair, teasing the ends. Violet went on to to explain how she had passed out, and through routine blood work, she had learned of the baby.

“Why didn't you tell me sooner?” I asked.

“I was going to the night you had set me up on the last date.” Cupping her hands over my cheeks, she held my face, forcing me to look at her. “But then you told me about your past, you told me how you felt about me. I guess I was afraid it might scare you away. I wanted to wait until the right time, and well. . .” The soft pad of her thumb rubbed against the curve of my jaw. “This was the right time.”

As I looked into her eyes, her face, her lips; I was hit by a feeling, an emotion—

  Love.

I loved the life she carried inside her, I loved the way she cared, she laughed.

  I loved her.

For the first time ever, I could say I felt the nerve that fed us all, the desire we all ran to, and craved to have for ourselves.

I felt everything around me. The air tasted sweet, the light was bold and bright and warmed my face, the smell of her perfume hung in my senses and made an imprint of that moment like a scar across my skin.

  I loved her.

Staring into her large brown gaze, I curled my fingertips deep into the small of her back. “Violet, I need to tell you—”Searching her eyes, the soft expression eased my nerves. “I love you.” Violet opened her lips to speak, but I wouldn't let her stop the flow of words rising off my tongue. “I was afraid to love anyone, because I didn't think anyone would love me back.” Pressing our bodies together, I held her firmly in my arms. “I love you so much it hurts, I would never run away from you and I'd never run away from my child.”

A single tear cascaded down her cheek, followed by another, then another. The tears began to shed, but her lips stayed in a steady smile. “I'm sorry, it's the hormones.” Laughing gently, she wiped her face with the back of her hand, and inhaled a deep breath. “I love you too, I do. I didn't think I'd ever say those words again.” Sniffling, Violet laid her head on my chest. “But you were right all along.”

“About what?” I asked, whispering the words into her hair.

“That I had room in my heart.”

Smiling, I picked her face up with a single finger under her chin. “You'll never have to make room again, I'm never going anywhere. My place is with you, it's with Lilith, it's with our little bundle growing in your stomach.” Wriggling my fingertips against her belly, Violet giggled, smacking my hands away.

And I knew right then that everything I needed was right there.

It had fallen into my hands, and I had been too blind to see it.

  Family.

  Epilogue

  Mateo

“Lilith, breakfast!” I called down the hallway and the sound of her quick feet swiftly followed.

“Goooood morning, Mattie!” She yelled, jumping into the kitchen and holding out her arms.

Her smile warmed my stomach, the twinkling in her eyes shined like spotlights in the dark. Lilith had become a huge part of my life, I looked at her like she was my own daughter.

Dancing to the table, she tapped her toes against the tiles, and wiggled her body. “What are you doing?” I asked, cocking my head and raising a brow.

“What does it look like?” Lilith continued her spastic maneuvers, staring at me with her teeth on display.

“It looks like you have ants stuck in your pants.”

Giggling, she rolled her eyes and threw her hands to her ribs. “No, I'm getting my welcome dance ready for Sweet Pea.”

Sweet Pea was the name Lilith had given to her soon to be baby brother—or sister. Violet and I had decided not to learn the sex.

There were few things in this world that were completely out of someone's control, and for us, this would be a welcome surprise.

“Ahh, okay, gotcha.” Mimicking her moves, I danced my way to the table and placed down her egg sandwich.

“Mattie, that's not it at all.”

“Well teach me so I can do it right. We should be completely in sync to make the dance perfect.”

Lilith continued to stomp her feet, flail her arms, and toss her body around. And even though she was insisting it was a dance... I still couldn't shake the image of
her having some small critters scaling around her body and making her itch.

“What are you guys doing?” Violet's sleepy voice radiated from behind us, her body perched against the wall.

“We are dancing. You can't tell?” I asked, never stopping my moves. “Lilith is teaching me the welcome dance for the baby.”

Rubbing her large belly, Violet smirked. “Oh, okay, yeah that's good. But how about we eat, the baby is starving.”

Lilith's tiny head joggled side to side, eyes slinking into her skull. “Mommy, the baby is always starving, does it ever stop eating?”

“Nope, and when you were a baby, you didn't either.” Popping her lips in a loud smack, Violet inhaled a huge gulp of air. “That smells delicious.”

“Of course it does, you haven't wanted anything but eggs for four months now.” Sliding her sandwich across the counter, Violet snatched it up and dove right in.

With a mouth full of food, she let her lids fall closed, moaning soft coos to the flavor hitting her tongue. “I could seriously eat these all day every day.” Rolling her head across her shoulders, she opened her eyes and smiled. Her cheeks were fully stuffed with egg and bread, tiny crumbs speckled her lips. “Thank you.”

“Anything for you, Beautiful.” Winking, I picked up my plate and headed to the table. “If you'd like to eat with us, I can always give you mine and make another.” Chuckling, I laid the plate on the table, pulling out the seat, and holding out my hand.

“No, sit, I'll make another.” Her tongue dragged over her lips, as she scuffed her swelling feet across the floor. “One more should hit the spot.”

Lilith sat across from me, her chubby little cheeks hitting below her eyes as she ate her breakfast. “Mattie, do you still have the tickets from Kids Bop?” Her fluffy curls bounced over her face, spinning up as she snapped her head side to side.

Scrunching my face, I glanced up at the ceiling, thinking for a moment. “I think so, I think I still have them in my wallet.” Grabbing a napkin, I wiped my hands and pulled out my wallet. “Yup, they're right here.”
